2A Passes - Planning Underway

I'm excited that Sheridan's citizens voted to approve ballot issue 2A. The city is expecting to receive around $500,000 this year once the River Point bond refinancing is completed. The Council and City want to use these funds initially to bring the city back to a stable financial situation as we get out of the recession. Then, the funds will be dedicated 50% to capital improvements and maintenance beginning in 2013.

Even though the committment we made was only to begin funding infrastructure fixes in 2013, we can't wait to get underway with this, recognizing that Sheridan has been waiting a long time! So, the City will be doing an overlay on Oxford between Federal and Clay yet this year, and they will also be doing some minor street repairs around the city. We will still be able to put a large part of this year's $500,000 away in the city's "unreserved fund balance" to allow us to be in a better position should the economic climate deteriorate again.

Next year, we will undertake a comprehensive look at the infrastructure needs of the city, so we can priorize projects for the capital improvement fund (or whatever we end up calling that fund).

It's an exciting time for us on Council. We are pleased to be able to produce some tangible improvements for the city now and begin planning for the future!

Sheridan Police - Crime Mapping Service

From Chief Vasquez:
"The Sheridan Police Department has partnered with Crimereports.com to produce a map of crimes within the City of Sheridan. Crimereports.com is a free service for residents, which offers timely valuable information regarding reported crime in your neighborhood. By clicking on the website www.crimereports.com and either entering your address or the location of Sheridan, CO in the “Enter Location” section of the web site you will be able to see reported crime on a map. A link to the website will also be located on the City of Sheridan website at www.ci.sheridan.co.us

You will see there are several different options to bring up all crime, property crimes, crimes against persons and other activities involving the Sheridan Police Department. You can also review crime reports by individual date or range of dates. We believe that the service will be beneficial to both the Sheridan Police Department and the Sheridan community as we work together to prevent and solve crime."

Spring Clean-Up Day Apr 17 - Bring your donations

The Cities of Littleton, Englewood, and Sheridan (the Tri Cities), and South Suburban Parks and Recreation, are partnering with the arc Thrift Stores and Inter-Faith Community Services for the Epic Spring Cleaning event, Saturday, April 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pirates Cove Aquatic Park, 1225 West Belleview Avenue in Englewood.

According to Littleton Mayor Doug Clark, charities are in need of donations to meet ongoing demand. “The Epic Spring Cleaning event is a chance for people to clean out their closets while supporting Colorado-based local charities that in turn support people with developmental disabilities, their families and the under privileged,” Clark said.

Residents are invited to bring gently used clothing, household items and furniture to the drop off site. They’ll receive a tax donation slip in return. Small electronics will be accepted but no paint, motor oil or chemicals. Food and toiletries will also be collected.

Sandra Blythe-Perry, Inter-Faith Community Services executive director said, “We’re excited to partner with arc Thrift Stores in this wonderful event that will have a meaningful impact for people in need throughout our communities.”

Volunteers are needed to assist participants in unloading donated goods at the drop off site and placing them in boxes for distribution. If you’d like to help, contact David Diedrich with arc Thrift at 720-299-3120.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held the following Saturday, April 24 at Pirates Cove.
